Q: How did you learn to quilt?

A: My mother, Dori, taught me how to use a sewing machine when I was a little girl. My grandmother, Nita, and other family members quilted, and it was a revered craft in our clan. I started exploring fabric as an art form in my early 20’s and accidentally made a quilt. I’ve taken a few classes online and in person with skilled teachers, learning new blocks and techniques, and then used them to unearth my own style. I’m always experimenting and opening to new ideas.

Q: How long does it take to make a quilt?

A: The answer varies greatly. One time I made a baby quilt in 6 hours. Another time I made a king sized quilt in 115 hours. Most big quilts take at least 60 hours, generally longer. Baby quilts are around 12 hours. It all depends on my design, and what phase the moon is in, and my dog’s mood. They take a long freaking time, and I love almost every single step.

Q: How do I care for my quilt?

A: Unless otherwise noted, all my quilts are 100% cotton, and are made to be truly used, washed and dried a million times. You can machine wash cold and tumble dry low for the least impact and optimum longevity. If you find a seam is coming undone, do your best to repair it with a needle and thread, and if it’s more than you can manage please email me photos and we can start a conversation about repair options. I do not do quilt repair outside of my own quilts.

Q: Will you hem my pants?

A: Nope! I’m terrible with clothing. Most dry cleaning businesses offer alteration services.

Q: Do you teach classes or sell your patterns?

A: Nope! Maybe I will in a few years. There are many great online resources and teachers,or check with your local fabric shop. Some of my favorite teachers you can search foronline are Tara Faughnan, (for color and design work), Leah Day, (excellent beginnerand basic tutorials), and Bethanne Nemesh, (she’s a master with the longarm).

Q: Do you offer longarm quilting services?

A: Not at this time. You can search a great directory of quilters for hire at the Longarm League.

Q: Will you make a quilt out of my special tee-shirts?

A: Yes! I can take your sentimental fabrics and create a memory quilt, sometimes called a tee-shirt or bereavement quilt. I often incorporate my own fabrics to round out the color palette. A typical tee-shirt quilt has about 10-20 shirts, but you can give me even one piece to work into a quilt. You can see many examples in my gallery.

Q: How do I get your art?

A: Please visit my Commissions page or my Shop page for more info!
